Matsumoto Day Trip

A full day exploring Matsumoto Castle and the historic shopping streets around it, on foot from Matsumoto Station and back to Narai Station by train.

   Depart Samurai Hotel Narai-so

   Walk to Narai Station.

2. 9:17 AM

   Depart Narai Station

   Take the JR Chūō Main Line toward Matsumoto.

3. Around 10:15 AM

   Arrive at Matsumoto Station

   Exit from the Castle / East Exit and walk toward Matsumoto Castle.

4. 10:35–11:45 AM

   Matsumoto Castle

   Visit one of Japan's finest original castles. Allow approximately 60–70 minutes for the castle and grounds.

5. 11:55 AM–12:30 PM

   Nawate-dori Shopping Street

   Enjoy the lively pedestrian street along the Metoba River, with local snacks, small shops, crafts and the famous frog theme.

   Lunch

   Have lunch around Nawate-dori or Nakamachi.

7. 1:20–2:20 PM

   Nakamachi Shopping Street

   Explore the traditional kura-style storehouses, galleries, cafés and independent shops.

   Touhenboku Art Shop

   Visit this small art and craft shop in the Nakamachi area.

   Take a short break at this historic and atmospheric café.

    Shimayu / Kamidate Shimayu (紙舘 島勇)

    Visit this long-established specialty shop for Japanese washi paper and handcrafted washi dolls — a good place to find distinctive Japanese souvenirs.

    Free time / walk back toward Matsumoto Station

    Enjoy some final shopping or a relaxed walk through central Matsumoto.

    Depart Matsumoto Station

    Take the JR Chūō Main Line toward Narai.

    Arrive at Narai Station

    Walk back to Samurai Hotel Narai-so.
